Warren Wilson College invites applications for a full‐time faculty position in chemistry beginning summer 2019. The successful candidate will invigorate our major in chemistry through a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring undergraduate students in a robust learning community. This position includes work in physical chemistry, broadly defined. Candidates with an interdisciplinary background are encouraged to apply. The primary responsibilities of this position include teaching an upper‐level course in Physical or Quantum chemistry and teaching in the General chemistry sequence. The position also includes mentoring undergraduate chemistry research projects for students in our Natural Sciences Undergraduate Research Sequence program. Additional opportunities in this position could include the development of other advanced‐level courses and a first‐year seminar course. This is a full‐time continuing faculty position that is part of our extended contract system of employment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Regular teaching load is 24 credit hours per year; typically 4 credits are reassigned to mentor undergraduate research projects
  • Provide academic and career advising to students in Chemistry
  • Mentor student research projects with in the Natural Science Undergraduate Research Sequence
  • Participate in and contribute to the business of the Department of Chemistry and Physics
  • Service to the college, and ongoing professional development and scholarly activity

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry or a related field, in hand by August 1, 2019
  • Successful undergraduate teaching experience
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional growth and service

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated interest in pedagogical innovation and experiential learning
  • Past work in diverse or multicultural environments
  • Experience mentoring undergraduate research
