The English and Communication Department at Warren Wilson College in Asheville, North Carolina welcomes applications for the position of Visiting Assistant Professor of English for the 2025-26 academic year.

The Department of English and Communication is an interdisciplinary learning community, preparing students with transferable skills more important than ever. We focus on strong written and oral communication, argument, close reading, problem solving, and critical thinking. The two disciplines work closely together, allowing students to count credits toward the major from both disciplines. Both majors also include courses in other departments and collaborate seriously with other humanities subjects, in particular. There are opportunities for internships and community engagement in both majors. Faculty in the department extend the classroom and campus through close connections with community partners.

This is a 10 month teaching position, with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2025, and an end date of May 31, 2026, with the possibility of a one year renewal.

Responsibilities

  • Teach six courses in the successful candidate’s disciplinary expertise;
  • Provide academic and career advising to English majors;
  • Mentor students as they prepare senior capstone projects.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in English. ABD candidates will be considered;
  • Evidence of experience and excellence in teaching undergraduates;
  • Demonstrated experience with advancing diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging in learning spaces, or relevant lived experience. For instance, experience incorporating inclusive teaching modalities and working with diverse student populations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One or more years of full-time teaching experience as the instructor of record at the undergraduate level;
  • Evidence of experiential and applied learning pedagogy;
  • Interest in multiple literary periods;
  • Evidence of scholarly publication and productivity;
  • Ability to contribute to both the ENG and the COM majors.
