The Department of Biology and Chemistry at Warren Wilson College in Asheville, NC, welcomes applications for the position of Visiting Assistant Professor of Animal Nutrition for the 2025–26 academic year.

The ideal candidate will be a broadly trained animal scientist with specific expertise in animal nutrition and chemistry, who is strongly committed to teaching in an undergraduate liberal arts environment. Strong candidates will have experience using fundamental chemistry concepts in applied animal nutrition. The successful candidate will join the Department of Biology and Chemistry. This department is an interdisciplinary and highly collaborative learning community, with majors in Animal Science, Biochemistry, Biology, and Conservation Biology. The successful candidate will also work in collaboration with the Center for Working Lands team, particularly through the College Farm’s livestock operation.

This is a 10-month teaching position with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2025, and an end date of May 31, 2026, with a possibility of a one-year renewal.

Responsibilities

  • Teach 24 credit hours during the academic year. Courses taught will include General Chemistry I, along with animal nutrition-related courses in the successful candidate’s specialty, and other courses related to Animal Science.
  • Co-mentor student capstone research projects within the Natural Science Undergraduate Research Sequence.
  • Participate in and contribute to the business of the Biology and Chemistry Department.
  • Engage in service to the college.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D in Animal Science or a related field. ABD will be considered.
  • Evidence of experience and excellence in teaching undergraduates.
  • Demonstrated experience with advancing diversity, equity and inclusion in learning spaces, or relevant lived experience. For instance, experience incorporating inclusive teaching modalities and working with diverse student populations.
  • Experience working with livestock in teaching or research settings.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One or more years of full-time teaching experience as the instructor of record at the undergraduate level.
  • Experience in animal science in the context of working lands and sustainable or regenerative agriculture.
  • Experience teaching foundational chemistry courses.
  • Evidence of experiential and applied learning pedagogy.
