Warren Wilson College seeks a dynamic, innovative professional to serve as the Assistant Director for Inclusive Excellence—a pivotal role in advancing Warren Wilson’s 'Progressive Promise for All.' The Assistant Director will support our LGBTQIA+ student community while also working across multiple identities and intersectionalities. Minimum Qualifications

  • Masters degree from an accredited college or university in Higher Education administration, College Student personnel or similar field.
  • 1 year of supervisory experience.
  • 1 year of experience providing programs for historically underrepresented identities, including LGBTQIA+ identities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a team setting to plan events.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with databases, spreadsheets and excellent word processing ability.
  • Demonstrated commitment to growth and development in inclusive excellence.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in Gender Studies, Queer studies, or a relevant field in inclusive excellence.
  • 2+ years supervisory experience, preferably with college students.
  • 1+ years experience working in higher education as professional staff.
  • Data informed, demonstrated success working with people from diverse backgrounds and individuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and apply student development theory.
  • Data informed, demonstrated success in diversity, equity, and inclusion work.

Key Responsibilities

Crew Supervision:

The OIE Crews currently (may change and adapt to changing student needs) consist of students working within five Impact Focus Areas (IFAs): (1) Race, Ethnicity, & Nationality, (2) Gender & Sexuality, (3) Religion, Spirituality, & Interfaith Engagement, (4) Abilities, Disabilities, & Wellness, and (5) First Generation + (includes Political Philosophy, Class Status, etc.). OIE crews provide programs campus-wide, and emphasize collaboration and address identity intersections.

  • Supervise and train students in OIE Crews.
  • Collaborate with WPO in the recruitment and selection of student crew members.
  • Collaborate with OIE Crews to implement WIDE Guide Training,, & OIE Excursions, Community Conversations and other programming.
  • Takes special attention to support our diverse queer community and educate the broader community on matters pertaining to gender and sexuality. This includes the following:
    • Coordinate and plan selection of QRC Crew events (may include, but not limited to, Blue Ridge Pride Festival, LGBTQIA+ heritage month events, drag brunch and lavender graduation).
    • Manage the crew staffing and event scheduling of the Queer Resource Center, and help ensure a welcoming environment.
  • Monitor the Queer Resource Center budget and seek the Director’s approval for all program expenses.
  • Attend WPO training, manage student timecards, assess performance of assigned crew members.
  • Meets regularly with Crews and Crew leaders.
  • Maintains presence at club events.

Club Supervision:

OIE Clubs currently (may change and adapt to changing student needs) includes the following: ACC (Asian Culture Club), BSU (Black Student Union), ISA (Indigenous Student Association), LSC (Latinx Student Collective), SWANAA (South West Asian North African Alliance), and WWC (World Wide Club).

  • Oversee programming; supervision and training of club members.
  • Meets regularly with students and club leaders (currently biweekly).
  • Provide leadership and budget training at the beginning of Fall semester.
  • Administer club budgets, proposals, disbursing of funds/purchases, etc.
  • Supervises Club oversight of their social media pages.
  • Maintains presence at club events.

OIE Programming:

  • Work with Director to implement and integrate history month celebrations/events with Crew and Club programming.
  • Guide crew members and clubs to plan and publicize events in close collaboration with campus & community partners.
  • Lead sessions within the OIE crew training & meetings to foster intersectional IFA programming.

OIE Planning & Support:

  • Meet regularly with the Director, to maximize coordination and collaboration with campus and community partners.
  • Works with the Director of Inclusive Excellence & Student Success and the Assistant Director of Student Success to implement transition programs and events and assists with other events including but not limited to the following: Fall and spring orientation (New Student Orientation); Welcome week; Convocation, parents programming during orientation; Family Weekend (includes family reception); Senior week; graduation; Work Day.
  • Other duties as assigned.
