Warren Wilson College invites applications for the inaugural role of Director of Neurocomplexity Programs—a visionary new position at the forefront of inclusive, student-centered innovation in higher education. Reporting to the Dean of the Center for Academic Engagement, the Director will shape, grow, and lead a suite of high-impact programs designed to support neurocomplex and diverse learners through holistic, personalized academic experiences.

This role is ideal for a bold thinker and compassionate practitioner eager to build something new from the ground up. The Director will lead and develop programs such as the College Compass, Learning Curve, and Transition to College Summer Bridge, all of which provide tailored support, coaching, and community to help students navigate their academic journeys with confidence. This role blends program management, student support, teaching, and campus-wide collaboration in a way that is dynamic and deeply impactful.

You’ll work closely with students, faculty, families, and staff to foster belonging, success, and resilience. This position requires some evening and weekend hours and involves direct supervision of student workers during the academic year.

About the Academic Engagement Department & Neurocomplexity Programs

Warren Wilson’s Academic Engagement Department supports students in developing strong academic identities and lifelong learning strategies. The new Neurocomplexity Programs expand this mission with specialized support for all kinds of minds; this includes all students who need support in navigating academic transitions and who seek extra support for holistic success in college.

The Director will oversee and continue to shape the following signature initiatives:

  • College Compass: A semester-based coaching program combining weekly one-on-one meetings, peer mentoring, and family engagement.
  • Learning Curve: Intensive daily and ongoing learning support guided by specialists and peer coaches.
  • Transition to College Summer Bridge Program and Pre-Orientation Program: Designed to ease the leap into college life.
  • Provisional Acceptance Program: Offers enhanced support and coursework to help students thrive from day one.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Education, Counseling, or a related field.
  • 2 years of full-time experience working with students in an educational setting.
  • One year of supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with people from diverse identities and experiences, especially neurocomplex students.
  • Demonstrated technological skills in the use of information systems, data collection and analysis, multimedia design tools, and educational technologies.
  • Demonstrated understanding about accessibility services, compliance, learning accommodations, and student success.
  • Experience with recruitment and marketing: excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, ability to present and speak to large groups of people.
  • Evidence of program development, implementation, and evaluation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3 to 5 years of full-time experience working with students in an educational setting.
  • Demonstrated experience working with students engaged in accessibility services, compliance, learning accommodations, and student success.
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience of the bio-psycho-social approach of supporting students.
  • Previous experience working with Admissions.
  • Experience working with students coming from non-traditional education frameworks and backgrounds, including but not limited to experiential learning environments, homeschooling, boarding school, work college programs etc.

Key Responsibilities

Program Management

  • Neurocomplexity Programs:
    • Transition to College Summer Bridge Program at WWC
    • Pre-Orientation Program at WWC
    • College Compass Program at WWC, a pay-by-semester program that provides a one-on-one success coach (weekly meeting, series of group skill-building sessions, support from peer advisors, parent webinar series, social events)
    • The Learning Curve Program at WWC, a pay-by-semester program that provides intensive auxiliary support from a learning specialist and a tailored Learning Access Plan that includes daily direct contact with their learning specialist and/or peer coach and frequent indirect contact for continuous support.
    • Provisional Acceptance Program at WWC, including a Pre-Orientation Program and semester-long course engagement in the College Academic Strategies course.
  • In coordination with the Dean of the Center for Academic Engagement, the Programs Director will work with the Admission, Marketing, and Communication officers to facilitate educational counselor fly-ins and other outreach efforts associated with the Neurocomplexity Programs.
  • Co-facilitate with the Director of Academic Support recruitment, training, peer support, and programming within the Writing Studio and Academic Engagement Work Crews.
  • Work collaboratively and resourcefully with faculty and staff to address student learning concerns and outcomes.

Direct Student Support

  • Teach one section of the College Academic Strategies (EDU 1160) course per semester.
  • Provide direct support in a case management model for the College Compass and Provisional Acceptance Programs students.

The Academic Engagement Department

  • Co-supervise, manage, and maintain the Academic Engagement departmental website, social media, and communication materials as part of the Academic Engagement Director’s Group.
  • Assist with the support of First-Year Seminar classes regarding first-year college transition.
  • Participate with staff in long-range planning and assessment.
  • Prepare reports and other publications as requested.
  • Serve on the College’s Early Support Committee.
  • Provide support for Universal Design in teaching and learning.

Campus-wide Support

  • Provide support for efforts associated with the college’s assessment plan. Assist in developing and implementing assessment tools to evaluate effectiveness and identify areas for improvement within Neurocomplexity Programs and Academic Engagement.
  • Assist in collecting and evaluating data regarding students’ progress; provide feedback as needed to faculty and staff.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty, staff, programs, and services, including Admissions and The Center for Experiential Learning and Careers.
  • Provide visibility of services offered within Neurocomplexity Programs and Academic Engagement by participating in campus-wide committees and community events.
  • Attend appropriate meetings within the Center for Experiential Learning and Careers, Student Engagement, and Academic Affairs programs.
  • Actively participate in broader Warren Wilson College activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
